Vytjie Mentor Wiki
Vytjie Mentor was born on 19 October 1963 in South Africa. She served as Chair of the Caucus from 2004 to 2008. During this time, Jacob Zuma was deputy president and Thabo Mbeki was president. She is also a Former African National Congress Member of Parliament (MP).

Vytjie Mentor Biography
Vytjie Mentor was born on 19 October 1963. She served as Chair of the Caucus from 2004 to 2008. During this time, Jacob Zuma was deputy president and Thabo Mbeki was president. In January 2008, ANC MP Gwede Mantashe announced that ANC MP Ncumisa Nkondlo would replace Mentor as Chairperson of the Caucus.
In May 2009, she was appointed the chairperson for the public enterprise committee. According to reports, Mentor (who was still the public enterprises’ portfolio committee chairperson) joined Zuma on a state visit to China which raised questions of controversy.
The ANC launched an investigation of Mentor after it was revealed in 2010 that Transnat paid her R155 000 for the abovementioned trip to China, including a first-class air ticket.
Mentor was subsequently fired from her position as chairperson of the public enterprises’ portfolio committee after she reportedly asked for sponsorship for the trip without going through the usual parliamentary protocol.

Vytjie Mentor State Capture Inquiry
The Former African National Congress Member of Parliament (MP) Vytjie Mentor in a State Inquiry on 27 August 2018 stated that the Gupta brothers seemed to be in charge of state trip to China. “The trio I later came to know firmly in my mind that are the Gupta brothers were seemingly in charge of the procedures and processes.”
Mentor claims that the Guptas offered her the job of Public Enterprises Minister before Barbara Hogan was removed from the position by former President Jacob Zuma.
Her testimony comes after former deputy Finance Minister Mcebisi Jonas testified on Friday, 24 August 2018 that members of the Gupta family had offered him R600 million if he took then Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene’s job.
Mentor believes she fired from her position as chairperson of Parliament’s Public Enterprises Committee for opposing controversial plans to shut down South African Airways’ India route.
“I stand before you today chairperson, difficult as it is, in pursuant of the approach I took on my life of breaking rank and differing when issues of principle are meddled with.” Mentor stated.

Vytjie Mentor Reverses her statements on Fana Hlongwane – State Capture Inquiry
On Friday, 16th November 2018, Vytjie Mentor admitted that she may have incorrectly identified a man she was introduced to by Duduzane Zuma as Fana Hlongwane during her testimony at the Zondo commission into state capture.
In a letter sent by law firm Webber Wentzel to the commission, chaired by Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo, Mentor states that after having given testimony, she decided to view images of Fana Hlongwane on the internet.
She states that after reflecting on the images she had come to realise that they were “not of the person [she] was introduced to by Mr. Duduzane Zuma on the Emirates flight as ‘Chairman’”.
In August 2018, Mentor testified to the commission that Transnet had booked her a first-class ticket to China on Emirates via Dubai.

Vytjie Mentor is expected to face cross-examination from legal counsel representing parties implicated in her testimony at the judicial commission of inquiry into state capture on February 12th, 2019.
