Tyler Janovsky Bio
Tyler Janovsky is a felon from the Waseca Minnesota who is accused in the shooting of police officer Arik Matson. 37-year-old Janovsky has led a life of crime that includes alleged methamphetamine dealing, a naked burglary, and involvement in a strangulation murder. Matson was sent to North Memorial Health Hospital in Robbinsdale to receive urgent medical attention.

In the incident on Monday, four officers responded to a call of a suspicious person with a flashlight in the backyard of a home in the 900 block of 4th Ave. SE. before 8 p.m. The suspect, Tyler Robert Jonovsky, 37, had an active warrant for drug-related charges, but officers did not know they were encountering him.

He has been described as a dedicated police officer who serves in the DARE program, among other duties. There is a GoFundMe page to help the officer and his family.
Officers found Jonovsky in a neighboring property on the next block, and shots were exchanged, with both Jonovsky and Matson hit. Jonovsky was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
A prayer service is being held at Hope Church Thursday night, and the pastor encouraged people to attend and to give to the family’s GoFundMe page.

The shooting suspect Tyler Janovsky, suffered non-life threatening injuries after being shot by other officers. He was also taken to the North Memorial Health, where he remains as of early Tuesday evening.

Arik Matson is in critical but stable condition at North Memorial hospital. A pastor for the family, Kaleb Hurley of Hope Church in Albert Lea, released a video in which he said Matson is showing signs of improvement after a “very successful,” surgery.
Janovsky Criminal Record
Janovsky has a lengthy criminal record, including convictions for burglary, drug crimes, terroristic threats and accessory to murder. Evans said Janovsky had an active arrest warrant at the time of the shooting.
The Waseca Police Department said in a news release that the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) is investigating the officer-involved shooting incident that happened January 6, 2020 “during which an officer and a suspect were shot. The incident happened after 8 p.m. tonight at a residence on the 900 blocks of 3rd Avenue Southeast in Waseca.”
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, which is investigating the shooting, says four officers were responding to a disturbance at the home when shots were fired. That’s when an officer later identified as Matson, 32, was shot in the head. He was airlifted to North Memorial Health Hospital in Robbinsdale. Matson, from Freeborn, is in critical, but stable condition as of early Tuesday evening.
