Maryland authorities say an 80-year-old woman was out for a morning walk when she was randomly attacked by a stranger.
Fox 6 reports that the incident happened on a walking trail in Columbia on September 9, off of Cradlerock Way. The suspect, identified at 20-year-old Traquan Malik Waller, allegedly sliced the victim’s neck at around 6:35 a.m.
Waller, who has no address, does not know the victim and did not have a known motive, police said. The victim returned to his nursing home, bleeding from his neck. Another resident called 911.
The victim was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma, but is expected to survive.
Investigators said Waller said nothing to the woman and took nothing from her. The authorities detained him and took him to a hospital for unknown reasons. You will be taken to the Howard County Detention Center when you leave the hospital.
Fox 45 reports that police found clothing that matched Waller’s at the scene, along with a knife. He has been charged with assault, attempted murder and reckless danger.
