Tiffani has been working as a substitute teacher in the district since August 2019. She was hired by the Hays Consolidated Independent School District in August 2019 and completed orientation training. According to KXAN-TV, her first day as a substitute teacher was September 13 and, since then, she spent 18 times in the district.
Lankford does not appear to have a teaching certificate, since according to the Texas Education Agency website, substitute teachers are not required to have a professional teaching certificate or permit. However, substitute teachers must pass a criminal background check before they are allowed to enter the classroom.
The Hays Consolidated Independent School District says Lankford was fired as a substitute teacher, and the incident was reported to the Texas Education Agency.
Lehman’s director, Karen Zuniga, said in a statement to the parents; “Under no circumstances is such behavior tolerated at Lehman High School or at Hays CISD. We take the safety of our students seriously. We take quick action when this incident occurred and we will do everything necessary to protect our students. ”
Lehman High School posted a statement on Facebook that said they had fired the teacher as they cannot tolerate such behavior.

The girl hit by Lankford was described as being a sophomore and a member of the basketball team. According to the police authorities the student was taken to a local hospital. She is still recovering from severe injuries.
There are claims that the girl hit Lankford first. In additional videos posted on Facebook, it appears that the student hit Lankford first. Lankford was standing over the student’s desk when the girl appears to swing at her, prompting Lankford to hit back. From the angle of the video, it is unclear whether Lankford was touching the student before the violence began.
The teenager’s family issued a statement through his lawyer, Paul Batrice, saying they were horrified by the incident.
“We are shocked and disgusted after seeing the abuse and excessive force used in this teacher’s attempt to discipline a child with special needs,” Batrice told KVUE on behalf of the student’s family.
‘There is no excuse for this type of behavior. Given the alleged criminal history of domestic violence of this teacher and the video that has shaken our community, we have begun an investigation into this teacher and Hays CISD with the hope of guaranteeing justice for this family and so that no Texas student suffers a such extreme behavior again, ‘said the lawyer’s statement.
According to the family attorney, the student has a 504 Education Plan for special needs with the district and suffers seizures.
