Thomas Bonfanti Shooting
Three people were killed and a fourth person was injured Monday morning in a series of shootings in Downeast Maine, according to Maine State Police.
Police said they received at call at 10:47 a.m. that a woman was shot outside a home on Kennebec Road in Machias. Police said when they arrived they also found a man, Shawn Currey, dead inside the home.
Shooting Victims
The shooting victims have been identified as Shawn Currey, 57, Samuel Powers, 33, and Jennifer Bryant Flynn, 49. An unnamed woman injured in the shooting was taken to a nearby hospital. State police said that the woman was alive during a news conference Monday night.
Thomas Bonfanti Arrested
Shortly after, police received information that Bonfanti was in Machias at the American Legion Post 9 building.
Police arrested Bonfanti at the American Legion hall where he was found unarmed, according to the Portland Press Herald.
Thomas Bonfanti Criminal Record
According to records obtained from the Maine State Bureau of Identification, Bonfanti does have a criminal record. In November 2016, he was arrested by state police for operating under the influence. He was found guilty and fined $600. His driver’s license was suspended for 90 days.
The state Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to perform autopsies Tuesday on each of the victims to determine their cause of death.
Investigation Report
Investigators then responded to the American Legion in Machias where they encounter Bonfanti and arrested him.
According to Police, all four victims were shot and Bonfanti knew them.
Investigators did not reveal what might have been a motive in the shootings.
Police said they do not believe anyone else was involved in the shootings and there is no longer a threat to the public.
