Tamena Strickland Arrested and Charges

Tamena was arrested and charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder, Portland Police announced at about 9 p.m.She was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center.

Police Investigation Reports

Police in Portland say 30-year-old Tamena Strickland was taken into custody late Friday following the shooting death of 22-year-old Deante Strickland.

The Oregonian/OregonLive reported that Deante Strickland’s uncle, Damian Strickland, said Tamena Strickland is Deante Strickland’s sister.

Portland police didn’t immediately respond to inquiries from The Associated Press.

Tamena Strickland is being held in the Multnomah County Detention Center without bail on suspicion of murder and two counts of attempted murder.

Authorities say the shooting occurred at a house and that two women were also injured by gunfire and sustained what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

It’s not clear from online records if Tamena Strickland has an attorney.

A star athlete at Portland State University was shot and killed on Friday, allegedly by his own sister, according to police.

Portland native and standout basketball player Deante Strickland, 22, was fatally shot at a Northeast Portland home alongside two other women, who were left with non-life threatening injuries.

On Saturday morning, authorities arrested Tamena Strickland, 30, on charges of murder and two counts of attempted murder, with family confirming that Tamena was Deante’s sister, NBC News reports.

According to Tamena and Deante’s uncle, Damian Strickland, his niece shot Deante as well as her aunt and her grandmother. Both women are expected to survive, Damian told The Oregonian.

According to J. Ramakrishnan, a reporter with Oregon Live, Tamena allegedly shot her brother, aunt, and grandmother. In a tweet by the reporter,  “Family confirmed that the deceased is Deante Strickland and that his sister, Tamena Strickland, shot him. Deante’s uncle, Damian Strickland, said Deante’s aunt and grandmother, both named Shirley, were shot, one in the knee and one in the back, and are at the hospital.”
