Robert Breck is identified and arrested and accused of shooting as the suspect shooter of Vancouver Smith Tower. A mass shooting took place in smith tower senior apartment complex Vancour where at least one person dead and two others wounded and rushed to the hospital. Robert Breck was a senior resident of the Smith Tower Apartment building, which is specifically for persons elder than 62 years.

Police said the shooting started in the lobby before the suspect barricaded himself in his apartment. Kim Kapp, the spokesperson for the Vancouver Police Department, said that after ongoing negotiations, officers were able to enter the apartment the suspect had barricaded himself in and take him into custody without further incident.

Smith Tower Shooting Victims

Some apartment residents were evacuated while others sheltered in place. It’s unclear if the victims were residents of the complex. The identification of all three victims is not released so far.

Robert Breck Arrested

When officers reached his apartment, he was inside his apartment and had initially refused to open the apartment and come out. After almost 3 hours of crisis negotiation, Breck was taken into custody without incident.

Video from the scene showed Breck in handcuffs being escorted by police out of the Smith Tower Apartments on Washington Street at the intersections of 5th and 6th streets, where police responded to the shooting shortly after 2 p.m.

Breck was booked into the Clark County Jail on charges of murder and attempted murder.

Authorities Statements and Investigation Reports

Vancouver’s Mayor, Anne McInerny-Ogle, made the following statement while the suspect was still self-barricaded in the Smith Tower Apartments:

“While we are still learning about what happened surrounding the shooting incident this afternoon in downtown Vancouver, our hearts go out to the victims and their families as they deal with this tragedy. I commend our police officers, fire and EMS personnel who quickly responded to the scene. I have the utmost confidence in our officers as they work to resolve the situation.”

We are continuing the investigation into the whole incident,” Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp said in a media briefing outside Smith Tower. Police have not released a motive.

Vancouver’s Major Crimes Unit will be continuing the investigation. Police said they do not know what led up to the shooting Thursday afternoon.
