A Tennessee man is accused of trying to run over police officers after smoking crack cocaine in front of them, authorities said.
Richard Steven Braden, 31, was charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and other crimes, FOX 17 reported.
Police spotted Braden driving erratically in Nashville at about 4 p.m. Friday and found he had warrants out for evading police and theft.
When the officers approached Braden, they found him holding what was described as a glass pipe with two white stones that the officers believed to be cracked. He allegedly started smoking the pipe saying, “If I drink all this, you can’t blame me for that.”
Police reportedly threatened to break Braden’s car window and Braden threatened to run over the officers.
Police said the suspect then crashed into the police vehicle that blocked him and nearly hit the officers who tried to arrest him.
Police followed Braden and eventually detained him about 55 miles outside Nashville, KIRO reported.
Braden is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday and the initial bail is set at around $ 120,000.
