Rudy Giuliani, the personal lawyer of President Donald Trump, marked one of the network reporters, Rich Schapiro, and without realizing it left a voicemail that mentioned Bahrain and the need for money.
Giuliani and Shapiro had spoken on the phone on October 16 about Giuliani’s ties with an Iranian opposition group. Then, the next morning, Schapiro found the message in his voicemail, and it seemed clear that the call was accidental.
Giuliani can be heard talking to someone else:
“The problem is that we need some money,” Giuliani says on the recording. “We need a few hundred thousand.”
At the beginning of the call, Giuliani can be heard saying: “You know. Charles would have a hard time with a fraud case because he didn’t do any due diligence. ”
Schapiro, in a story for NBC News, wrote that it was not clear what the exact context was for parts of the conversation. But he tried to reconstruct a part of its meaning, including Giuliani’s ties with Bahrain.
Giuliani also made an accidental call to Schapiro on September 28. In that three-minute voice message, Giuliani can be heard “shouting against the Bidens,” as Schapiro described it. That’s nothing new: Giuliani has frequently appeared on television making unfounded accusations against Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.
According to reports, Giuliani is the subject of a federal investigation related to his efforts to seek information on source Bidens in Ukraine. Giuliani has denied acting badly.
