Raven Abaroa Wiki – Raven Abaroa Biography

Raven Abaroa said he was out playing soccer when he returned to his family’s North Carolina home to discover a horrifying scene.
He told police he found his wife, 25-year-old Janet Abaroa, stabbed to death in an upstairs office. Nothing else in the house was disturbed, according to authorities, and the couple’s 6-month-old son, Kaiden, was left unharmed in another room.
“She’s been shot or something. There’s blood everywhere,” Raven Abaroa told a 911 dispatcher at the time.
Who killed Janet Abaroa was a mystery that captivated the Durham, North Carolina, suburbs, and the case remained unsolved for years.

Raven Abaroa Age

He is 41 years old as per 2020.

Raven Abaroa Family

Raven Abaroa was married to Janet Abaroa before he untimely death. The couple had a son, Kaiden.
Raven met his second wife, Vanessa Pond, a single mother at Salt Lake City. He told Pond that his first wife had died. She was initially a bit suspicious after reading local reports online about Janet’s death but said that when she asked Raven about it he “removed any and every doubt from my mind,” putting the blame for Janet’s unsolved death on police. In September 2008, Raven married Pond in an intimate backyard ceremony.
Just 4 months after getting married, they split, and their marriage was annulled because of his violent nature.

Raven Abaroa Wife’s Murder

Raven went to the police on April 26, 2005, to report that he had come home at 10 p.m. and found his wife dead. He said, “She’s been shot of something. There’s blood everywhere,” on the 911 call. It turned out, Janet was stabbed multiple times, not shot, and an autopsy showed she was pregnant with the couple’s second child. Their 6-month-old son Kaiden was safe in the next room.
There were a lot of reasons for police to suspect Raven murdered his wife. This included a $500K life insurance policy, his recent arrest for embezzling from the sports equipment store where the couple worked, and also a missing knife collection.
Abaroa seemed to have an airtight alibi. He was playing an evening game of soccer with his friends when the murder purportedly took place. Abaroa told police that, he left his wife on the bed watching TV.

Raven Abaroa arrest and Conviction

For five years, Raven evaded arrest on the basis of his alibi. He moved to Salt Lake City with their son, Kaiden, and remarried to Vanessa Pond in 2008.
Durham police spent the last several years trying to prove that Raven killed his wife. One nagging thing was that Janet had supposedly been in bed watching TV when Abaroa left the house, as it was her pre-sleep ritual. Her sisters said Janet would always take her lenses out before getting in bed but her eye contact lenses weren’t in the case at the time of death, so the fact they were missing contracted Abaroa’s story.
Also, police also noted that the signs of a disturbance one would expect with a home invasion stabbing weren’t present. Janet’s body was exhumed, and authorities found she was buried in her contacts. This was one of several mistakes in Raven’s story. For one, in his 911 call, he told police she was blue and her eyes were open when he found her. But he told a friend from church she had been alive when he got home and asked, “Why do I hurt so bad?”
He was arrested in July 2010. His first trial was in 2013, which went on for five weeks, ending in a deadlocked jury with 11 to 1 finding him guilty. The judge declared a mistrial. A week before the second trial was set to begin, he entered an Alford plea agreement for voluntary manslaughter.
He was sentenced to serve between 95 and 123 months, with the four years he had spent in jail already applied toward that sentence. In court, he said, “I would just like to state that I didn’t receive a fair trial the first time. I don’t think I’ll receive a fair trial a second time.”
Raven Abaroa Now

Raven was released on Christmas Day in 2017 after serving around 7 years and 11 months. He reportedly returned to Utah.

Raven’s son with Janet, Kaiden, who is supposed to be 14 years now, was placed with Raven’s mother, Karyn Abaroa-Bolton, and stepfather Jim Bolton.
