Randall Rhodey, 32, has been charged with auto theft, and Kayla Fox, 30 — who reported the stolen vehicle and that the girl was inside — has been charged with false reporting, according to the Knoxville Police Department.
The Tennessee police launched an intense search for a 10-year-old girl who was reported to be in the back seat of a car stolen on Saturday night, just to find out that the girl was constantly at their parents’ home.
The Knoxville Police Department said a 10-year-old girl was safe and a man and a woman were detained after a car was stolen in the back seat.
KPD said officials found it Saturday night. Officers detained a man and woman and continue to investigate. KPD has not published any information about man or woman.
KPD said the car was stolen on Parkwest Boulevard. The car was a white 2008 Mazda 6 and had four doors. It had a Tennessee plate labeled 9T6-1C2. Police said they found it in Oak Ridge.
Officials said more than one agency conducted research around 10 am. Saturday night. According to the statement from KPD, they had K9s and air support. This story will be updated as more information is available.

Rhodey allegedly admitted stealing the car but denied the little girl had ever been inside. Police continued to search for her, even bringing K-9s into the search, and were eventually told that she was her foster parents’s home in Scott County, about 60 miles northwest of Knoxville. Detectives traveled to the home and confirmed the girl’s presence there — where she had been all day.
Knoxville Police said that a 10-year-old girl was never lost after car theft and a false report that launched a multi-hour, multi-county search on Saturday night.
A spokesperson said that 30-year-old Kayla Fox called 911 around 9:15 am from Cracker Barrel along Park West Blvd. She told 32-year-old officers that Randall Rhodey was driving her car with the girl inside.
The KPD issued an emergency alert and KCSO launched its helicopter to search for the lost car.
Oak Ridge police soon saw the 2008 Mazda 6 in a traffic camera, and officers watched him in an apartment complex where Rhodey was arrested.
He admitted that he was stealing the car, but he denied that the little girl was inside. The officers then followed her to her guardian parents’ home in Scott County. Investigators went there to verify that he was there and safe all day.
KPD said that Fox lied to the researchers later.
Fox faces misrepresentation charges. Rhodey is charged with auto theft.
