The news of Ovidio Guzman being taken-in sparked bloody gun battles to erupt in Culiacán, which is the Sinaloa cartel’s stronghold.


Gunfire broke out between gang members and soldiers for several hours, with men wielding high-powered weapons storming the streets.
In a desperate bid to “protect citizens” Mexican security forces released Ovidio Guzman from a house hours after the arrest, according to Reuters.
Durazo also said this prompted groups of criminals to attack the patrols and carry out violent acts around the city. He said these were so serious that in order to safeguard the citizens of Culiacán, the authorities decided to “suspend our actions”. This led to confusion as to whether the young Guzmán was let go.
At the same time, photographs circulated on social media purporting to show Ovidio in detention in a light blue shirt, with what appeared to be religious medallions around his neck.
The Thursday’s shootouts initially prompted rumors that they were triggered by the arrest of Iván Archivaldo Guzman Salazar, another of Chapo’s sons. It’s unclear if he was detained.

The video, filmed on October 17 from the camera of a soldier’s helmet, shows Ovid in custody in the city of Culiacán, only to be released quickly after armed men of the cartel turned their fury against the city, leaving 13 dead.
While Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador observed, Security Minister Alfonso Durazo gave a detailed explanation of the failed arrest.
The images show soldiers moving into a building, with a young woman who emerges first before the son of the bonnet comes out, wearing a baseball cap.
With the news of the spread of the raid, violence had already begun to explode in the city, authorities said.
The video shows soldiers who order Ovid to call his brother, Archivaldo Ivan Guzman Salazar, to stop the carnage, but Archivaldo refuses.
