It was almost that simple. Even the background reads like a script for one of the lighter film comedies of the 30s from the air. In Max Reinhardt’s movie A Midsummer Night’s Dream (starring Mickey Rooney as Puck, but don’t let anyone stop) she was there to investigate the actress Gloria Stuart’s bottom. But before starting the film, both Stuart and understudy left the production. De Havilland, who died at 104 in Paris at home on Saturday, got the role of Hermia and never looked back.

In 1938, she played Maid Marian in the Adventures of Robin Hood, and the following year she appeared in Gone With the Wind as vanilla Melanie (but top drawer vanilla). She was nominated for five Oscars, and each won twice as Best Actress for Her Own and Snake Pit. He was a big star in the golden age of Hollywood. Critics loved him, viewers admired him – he had a soul, but not hot: he was one of the always-inviolate actresses like Greer Waiter and Loretta Young.

Robin Hood and Gone With the Wind, who retired even from minor roles almost twenty years ago, surpassed his stardom even though he secured his place in the movie memory forever. In his brightest period, he was the Queen of the Long-standing Heroes. Ask your grandmother. Or, given how Havilland lives, you can ask your grandmother to ask her grandmother.

Other credits of De Havilland include each of their own, Snake Pit, Keep Dawn, Captain Blood, Adventures of Robin Hood, Dodge City, Load of Light Brigade, Keep Dawn, Each of them, A Female Cage, Shut Up, Shut Up Sweet Charlotte and Fifth Swordsman. For the past few decades, she has been off the agenda with her last major role in the Woman she Loved in 1988.

Born as British parents in Tokyo, she was the older sister of actress Joan Fontaine, who died in 2013. She was 96 years old.

The brothers had a famous contest of competition.

In 2019, the U.S. Supreme Court rejected Havilland’s petition to reject the case against FX for the Feud: Bette and Joan series.

De Havilland sued the cable TV network in July 2017 and stated that Feud used his showrunners’ name and image without permission or compensation and portrayed him as a gossip seller negatively and incorrectly.

Catherine Zeta-Jones also played Havilland in the series depicting the war between actresses Bette Davis (Susan Sarandon) and Joan Crawford (Jessica Lange).

He was also famous as Fontaine’s sister, with whom he had a troubled relationship. In a rare 2016 interview with the Associated Press, de Havilland called his late sister “the dragon lady” and said that Fontaine’s memories, who died in 2013, were “versatile, ranging from loving to alienation.”

“From my point of view, he’s always loving, but sometimes alienated and broke off in later years,” he said. “As I finally decided to call her, Dragon Lady was a brilliant, very talented person, but she had astigmatism in perceiving people and events, which often caused her to react unfairly and even harmfully.”

De Havilland once observed that Melanie Wilkes’ happiness was sustained by a loving, safe family, a blessing that fled from the actress even in childhood.

He also played Havilland in the 2017 FX miniseries about Catherine Zeta-Jones, Davis, and Joan Crawford, but also objected to Havilland portrayal as a gossip and suing FX. The case was denied.

Despite his chronic stage fear, he made a summer stock in Westport, Connecticut and Easthampton, New York. He said that filmmaking created a different concern: “The first day of a movie I felt was,` `Why am I involved in this profession? I have no talent; this time they will learn. ”

Her daughter Gisele Galante Chulack survived by her son-in-law Andrew Chulack and her nephew Deborah Dozier Potter.

Journalist Goldberg said the funeral arrangements are special and monumental contributions should go to the American Cathedral in Paris.
