Mzwanele Manyi Bio

Jimmy Mzwanele Manyi was born on 20th January 1964. He is the former spokesperson for the government of South Africa and the chairman of both the Black Management Forum and the chairman of the Commission for Employment Equality. He has a background in economic geology and held a number of positions in business as well as the post of director general of the Department of Labor (2009-’10).

Mzwanele Manyi Biography

Mzwanele Manyi serves as the President of the Black Management Forum (BMF). He is the former Chief Executive Officer of GCIS and Cabinet spokesperson. He served as Deputy President of the Black Management Forum. Manyi was the Director-General at the Department of Labour and an overall convenor of government in National Economic Development and Labour Council (Nedlac). He has over 20 years corporate experience in mainly blue chip and multinationals spanning across key sectors of the economy (Mining, Auto, Banking, Information Technology, Heal, h and Food). Prior to joining the Department of Labour, Manyi served as the Group Executive of Corporate Affairs at Tigerbrands. Mr. Manyi serves on a few company boards as a Non Executive Director. He represents the BMF at BUSA. He has been Non-executive Chairman at Advantec Sensing AS since February 2011. He served as Chairman of the Board at Black Management Forum Investment Company Limited. He has been Director of Black Management Forum Investment Company Limited as from 8th February 2004. Manyi serves as a Board Member at Media Development and Diversity Agency. He is the former Chairperson of the Commission for Employment Equity. He has recently been elected as president of the Confederation of Black Business Organisations, (CBBO). He is a Chartered Marketer with an Economic Geology background.

On Monday, 26th November 2018,  Mzwanele Manyi responded to further interrogation of his testimony by the commission of State Capture Inquiry. He requested permission to first read a prepared statement before taking questions.

Cast into topics that included his transfer to Government Communication and Information Systems (GCIS) in 2011, taking control of the media buying unit and the prevalence of “white corporate capture” that he said triggered the liquidation of The New Age, Manyi – uninterrupted – presented his take on matters before Commission chairman, deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo.
