A lawmaker in the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Musa Baraza, is dead, The PUNCH has learned.
Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the gruesome killing of a member of the Bauchi State House of Assembly representing Dass constituency, Hon Musa Mante Baraza.
Confirming the tragic incident Friday morning in a telephone conversation, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer ( PPRO), DSP Ahmed Wakili, said that the lawmaker was killed by yet to be identified suspected gunmen late Thursday night at his residence in Dass.
It was gathered that Baraza was killed by gunmen on Thursday night at his residence in the Dass Local Government Area.
The lawmaker represented Dass Constituency in the House before his death.
The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed the incident on Friday morning.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakili, said the assailants also kidnapped his two wives and one-year-old child.
the incident happened on Thursday night at his residence in Dass local government area of Bauchi.
Confirming the incident to TheCable on Friday via telephone, Ahmad Wakili, spokesman of the Bauchi police command, said they are currently on the trail of the suspects.
Wakili said no arrest has been made so far.
“Yes, the lawmaker was killed by unknown gunmen, they abducted his wives and his one-year-old daughter,” he said.
“Presently, the police are on the trail of the suspects but no arrest has been made so far.”
Until his death, Baraza represented Dass constituency in the state house of assembly.
The aim of the killers, who invaded his house on Thursday night, is yet to be ascertained.
The PPRO also said the lawmaker’s two wives and one-year-old child were abducted by the gunmen with no trace of them established as of the time of this report.
He however said that a crack team of Police personnel led by the Dass Divisional Police Officer have mobilised to the area to commence immediate investigation to be able to track down the gunmen.
It will be recalled that the late lawmaker was one of the members of the Assembly who recently tested positive for COVID-19.
