Who is Miranda McClure?

Miranda McClure is widely known as the estranged wife of ex-NASCAR driver and team owner Eric McClure. Eric’s family released a statement on Sunday saying that he passed away Sunday at the age of 42. His body will undergo an autopsy to reveal his cause of death.

“The family of Eric Wayne McClure, former NASCAR driver, announces with great sorrow his passing on Sunday, May 2, 2021,”  the statement said, per Fox Sports’ Bob Pockrass. “They would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support during this very difficult time.”

Eric McClure was married to his now-estranged wife Miranda McClure. The couple had had seven daughters.

McClure last October pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor domestic violence charge against his now-estranged wife. He was ordered to complete 12 months of active probation, complete substance abuse counseling and undergo a mental health assessment and any recommended counseling.

Miranda said Eric choked and hit her in front of their children, and her 9-year-old daughter called 911.

Miranda is the estranged wife of professional stock car racing driver Eric McClure. The pair were married from 2004 to 2018.

Eric McClure Domestic Violence

In 2018, McClure faced a domestic violence charge against his wife Miranda. He was ordered 12 months of probation.

Miranda said her ex-husband choked and hit her in front of their children, and her nine-year-old daughter called 911. According to a criminal complaint, an officer arrived to find Miranda McClure with a handprint on her face.

Miranda told: News 5 “I think maybe to the outside, people thought I had a perfect life,”

She said, “It’s really hidden because there’s a certain amount of shame that goes with it. You think well no one will believe me.

“No one will think this really happened to me, so you just don’t say anything.”

Eric McClure Health

McClure’s career was cut short by health issues. He suffered at least two concussions in his career and the native of Chilhowie, Virginia, later said he was left with lingering headaches, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, sensitivity to light, bouts of depression and forgetfulness.

McClure said in 2013 he had been diagnosed with acute renal failure, and in 2019 he said he was being treated for kidney failure in both kidneys.

“We are saddened to learn of the passing of former driver and owner Eric McClure. NASCAR extends its deepest condolences to Eric’s family and friends,” racing’s sanctioning body said in a statement.

No details were given about his death.

The late driver raced in his first Xfinity Series race in 2003 back when it was the Busch Grand National Series. He competed at Rockingham while driving for Morgan-McClure Motorsports. He also made two Cup Series starts for the team in 2004 and 2006.

In July 2015, McClure announced that he was forming a part-time team. He partnered with NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Hal Martin and Abingdon race team owners Charlie and Don Henderson to create a two-driver team that would compete in the K&N East Series.

“I enjoy the challenge of competing,” McClure said during a press conference, per the Times-News. “I think that’s vital to the way that I’m geared, and I felt that ownership was the next logical step. But it’s only rewarding if you enjoy the people that you work with. We want high-quality people here.”
