João Franco has been making good use of his time away from the Below Deck crew. Just a few days ago, Bravo reported that João had decided to give up drinking after spending time with his family. João posted on his Instagram that he had not seen his dad for four years and the feeling he was left with was a hangover.
But then just yesterday, João posted a photo of himself and his now fiance, Michelle Dicu, at Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. The second photo of the set shows the ring. He commented on the post, ” I’ve never felt happiness so true and I fall in love with her over and over again, every day.”
Michelle and João have been dating since sometime in 2018 after Michelle was the dental hygenist who whitened his teeth in New York, according to Bravo. After things didn’t end well with Brooke Laughton, Michelle reached out when she was headed down to Fort Lauderdale – where João was stationed at the time.

Michelle Dicu is a Registered Dental Hygienist and has been working for The Rosenthal Apa Group since September 2017 to date as per her LinkedIn profile. Prior to that, he worked as a Dental Assitance in the same group as from 2010 to 2017. She list her first as a Dental Assitant at the Aesthetic Advantage -Continuing Education for Dentists.
Michelle Dicu & João Franco Engagement
João and Michelle met in August 2018 after his relationship with Brooke Laughton had fizzled out, he told The Daily Dish during an interview in July 2019. João decided to get his teeth bleached while he was in New York City for the Below Deck Med Season 3 reunion, and Michelle was the dental hygienist who performed the procedure.
João announced the happy news on Instagram on Friday, March 6. “The most incredible feeling I have ever felt was when she said yes. I’ve never felt a happiness so true and I fall in love with her over and over again, every day,” he gushed in the caption to the post. “Here is to the rest of our lives by each other’s side.”
In one of the captions, Franco and Dicu happily pose by Victoria Falls, while another shows the couple beaming as an engagement ring is seen on Dicu’s left hand.

Franco capped off the sweet note with the hashtags “engaged” and “happy hearts.”
In the post, the lead deckhand-turned-bosun also shared a close-up of Dicu’s engagement ring, which appears to feature a round diamond surrounded by a halo setting on an infinity band.
As of last summer, João and Michelle were in a long-distance relationship while she lived in New York City and he was in Florida. The next step for their relationship at the time was moving in together and figuring out what part of the world that would be in. The couple had planned to look at homes in Portugal during their vacation there last summer, João told The Daily Dish.
