Matthew Cartier (Black Lives Matter protester arrested) Biography – Matthew Cartier Wiki
Protester Matthew Cartier, 25, of North Point Breeze, broke away from the demonstrators to block intersections, WTAE reports.
A Black Lives Matter protester was arrested by plainclothes police officers and taken away in an unmarked vehicle in Pittsburgh Saturday, prompting the city’s mayor to ask for an examination of the incident to address citizen concerns.
The protest started around 3:15 p.m. Saturday in the city’s Shadyside neighborhood with about 150 people, who marched down Fifth Avenue and stopped at Forbes and Oakland avenues, WPXI is reporting.
Witnesses told WTAE that armed, uniformed men caught Cartier and drove him into an unmarked van.
This prompted Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto to ask the city’s public safety leaders to investigate. He said on Twitter on Saturday:
We are aware of the arrest that was made around 500PM today. I have ordered Chief Schubert & Director Hissrich to fully examine operations taken by Pittsburgh Police and by the individual arrested. Once we have video & transcripts, we will address our citizens concerns on Sunday.

“We are aware of the arrest made around 500 o’clock. today. I ordered Chief Schubert and Director Hissrich to fully examine the operations carried out by the Pittsburgh Police and the detainee. Once we have our video and transcripts, we will address the concerns of our citizens on Sunday. ”
The police say they have identified themselves and can be clearly identified as police, WPXI reports.
In a criminal complaint, the police said Cartier had been told to stop closing the intersection twice and moved, but later blocked another intersection and asked the police to detain him.
According to reports, a video posted on Twitter shows the aftermath of the arrest, in which two people went out in a white van while the other two walked away in a black sedan.
The person recording the video told the WTAE that when Cartier entered 3 meters from the location of these vehicles, a group of men with assault rifles jumped out, hit Cartier in the face and dragged him to the ground.
According to reports, Cartier faces three crimes, including non-dispersion, erratic behavior, and blocking of highways and other public crossings.
No other incidents were reported in the peaceful protest that broke up around 6:40 pm, TribLive.com reported.
