It happened in the parking lot of a liquor store in San Bernardino on Thursday night.

Police said the deceased was 35-year-old San Bernardino resident Mark Matthew Bender Jr. determined that. They said in the long criminal record that there was an arrest for attempted murder.

The police released the nine-second-long video on Friday.

It shows the uniformed officer wrestling with Bender shouting “Stop the fight, man.”

While the fight continues, it is seen that Bender is reaching for an item on his waist on the floor.

When both men stand up, the officer is seen pulling his gun and firing four shots.

Talking about the fight, police spokesperson Sergeant. John Echevarria said that Bender “was able to physically defeat the officer and take a gun out of his pocket.”

“Meanwhile, a fire was opened, involving the police,” he said.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Ecehvarria said, “He defended himself with a firearm,” when he saw that the officer had a gun from Bender.

Echevarria said that a 9mm semi-automatic pistol was found at the scene.

According to the Times newspaper, at a press conference on Friday morning, police tried to portray Bender as physically intimidating, describing him as 6 feet, 3 and 300 pounds, and cataloging what they called “long criminal history”.
