Malibongwe Gcwabe was known for being East London Gospel group Youth with Mission before venturing into his own solo career. He was also the pastor of The Remnant Ministries. It is being reported that the gospel artist died on Wednesday, May 13th after a short illness.

Gcwabe who was born and raised in Worcester in the Western Cape. Sipho Makhabane who gave Gcwabe the first big break when he recorded his first and second album said: “I met malibongwe when he was a member of Youth with Mission Gospel group. I realized that he was talented and we recorded his solo project.
Malibongwe Gcwabe Career
Gcwabe started his music career in 1995 as one of the lead vocalists of the popular East London based gospel outfit Youth with Mission.
He and Khanyisa Sabuka were the voices behind the success of the group, which became a household name.
He quit the group after releasing seven albums to focus on his solo career.
Gcwabe released his first album, Umlilo, in 2002.
A few years later he established his own music label Malibongwe Music Production where he released popular songs like Siyakudumisa, Taru Bawo and Calvary.
“I was there when he got married I sang at his wedding.”He was humble and down the earth person. He was dedicated to his work. As someone that I mentored, I was very happy with his progress as an artist.”
Gcwabe is known for popularizing Mormon Tabernacle Choir’s classic song ‘All is Well’ and for recording ‘Siyakudumisa’. He was also a pastor and the founder of Remnant Ministries in Duncan Village in East London.
Shongwe who also managed and helped Gcwabe to kick start his music career said when the singer died he was in the middle of recording a song about Covid-19 with gospel singer Khanyisa Savuka.
Malibongwe Gcwabe Death & Cause
Eastern Cape gospel artist Malibongwe Gcwabe has passed away. He was 55 years old.
Gabe was also the pastor of The Remnant Ministries.
His assistant manager, Lucky Shingwe, confirmed to DispatchLIVE on Wednesday that Gcwabe had died at Cecilia Makiwane Hospital (CMH).
“I can confirm that Malibongwe has passed away. We are here at Makiwane (CMH) with his wife,” he said.
According to Shongwe, the Enkosi Bawo hitmaker was taken to hospital on Wednesday for chest related problems.
“We later heard the news that he’d passed away,” he said.
He said Gcwabe’s death was a huge loss.
“The whole thing is still very fresh. I am still struggling to believe it,” he said.
