His wife was Aisha Fraser Mason. Mason fatally stabbed his estranged wife at her home in Shaker Heights on November 17, 2018. He tried to flee the scene in a black Audi SUV, but struck a Shaker Heights police SUV, injuring both the officer and himself. Mason and the officer were each taken to the hospital.
Aisha Fraser Mason was a school teacher at Woodbury Elementary School. She worked for Shaker Heights Schools for 16 years and was most recently a sixth-grade teacher at Woodbury.

In a statement, the Shaker Heights Teacher’s Association said, “Aisha exemplified the best of Shaker Heights teachers; smart, amazingly caring of her students and her colleagues, active in her profession and in our association. She is loved by many.”
