It’s been over four years since Apple announced the launch of its own payment service. In Germany, the owners of an iPhone or an Apple Watch but waited in vain for the opportunity to pay in the supermarket or in the online shop with their iPhone or Apple Watch. Germany is one of the last countries in Western Europe without ApplePay. One of the reasons for this is probably the preference of the Germans for cash. Hardly any other country pays as much cash as it does in Germany. And the skepticism about digital payment methods, especially with regard to data protection, is still great. Around 80 percent of all payments at the cash register are still settled in cash in Germany. For comparison, in the neighboring country of the Netherlands, there are only 45 percent. Another reason is likely that the German banks mainly put on debit cards or giro cards, Apple Pay initially worked only with credit cards
