Ken Benbow Fought in D-Day & the Pacific Theater During World War II

In 2020, Benbow told The Lancashire Post that he served in the Navy during World War II. Benbow said that he had been inspired to enlist after seeing the victims of the Dunkirk evacuation being brought through his local train station. During the war, Benbow fought on D-Day and also in the Pacific theatre.
During the interview, Benbow said that he left the military in 1946 and began working as a sales representative for an agricultural supply company. Benbow then moved to Garstang, just north of Preston, where he settled with Ada. Benbow retired in 1990. In March 2020, Benbow was quoted by a local radio station as comparing the coronavirus lockdown to war. Benbow said, “It was tough because they were short of people on the farm so I had to work from 4.30am until 11pm at night. But we had no restrictions on what we could do and could still go about free and easy.”
