Keith Walker is a homeless man who reportedly saved every cat and dog from a Georgia animal shelter that caught fire earlier this month.
According to CNN, the fire occurred on December 18 at the W-Underdogs. 53-year-old Keith Walker reportedly ran to the bunker after his kitchen caught fire.
“God put me there to save those animals,” Walker told the news outlet. “If you love a dog, you can love anyone in the world. My dog is my best friend and I wouldn’t be here without him, so I knew I had to save all the other dogs.”
TMZ reports that Walker saved six dogs and 10 cats in total.
The fire did not completely destroy the W-Underdogs, but the fire made the shelter completely uninhabitable. CNN reported that the shelter has been days left to move to another facility in Atlanta, where the rescued animals are now housed.
Gracie Hamlin, founder of W-Underdogs, told CNN that he had allowed Walker’s dog Bravo, who had been homeless since he was 13, to keep him in a shelter. When Walker realized the shelter was burning and saw it act, he set out to take a walk to Bravo.
According to TMZ, the cause of the fire was electricity.
A GoFundMe established for Walker has amassed more than $25,000 as of Monday afternoon.
