Kaja Sokola Sued Harvey Weinstein for sexually Assaulting
Sokola was originally involved in a class action lawsuit against Weinstein under a pseudonym and would have been part of the $ 25 million settlement provisionally reached between Weinstein and his prosecutors. However, Sokola spoke and filed his complaint to declare that he could not accept the terms of the agreement and, therefore, would not participate.
“There is no responsibility for the perpetrators, insufficient compensation for all victims and millions of dollars for people who I think have allowed Weinstein to do so,” Sokola said in a statement. “I know that this lawsuit cannot eliminate the pain I have lived with for 17 years. But I hope we can at least achieve a degree of justice that the many victims of Harvey Weinstein are still denied.”
Kaja Sokola Lawsuit
In his lawsuit, Sokola said he was introduced to Weinstein for the first time at an event related to his modeling agency when he was 16. When Weinstein heard that she was interested in becoming an actress and expressed interest in helping her in her career, Weinstein picked her up a few days later when she went to a business lunch together, the lawsuit says. Instead, Weinstein took Sokola “without his consent,” “aggressive and threatening sex [requested]” to his apartment and “didn’t let her go until she was afraid and was sexually abused,” the lawsuit says.
When I was 16 years old, I came to New York from Poland to work as a model and to try to become an actor, which had been my childhood dream. Not long after I arrived in New York, I was sexually abused by Harvey Weinstein. I have been living with the trauma of that day ever since.
I originally filed my case under a pseudonym as part of a class action against Harvey Weinstein, his companies, and associates. But I cannot accept the proposed “global settlement” as fair or just. There is no accountability for the perpetrators, insufficient compensation for all of the victims, and millions of dollars going to people that I believe enabled Weinstein.
Therefore, today I am filing my own case, in my own name, under New York’s Child Victims Act, against Harvey Weinstein and some of his enablers, including Robert Weinstein, Miramax, and Disney, each of whom could have — and should have — stopped Harvey Weinstein before he made me another of his victims.
Disney and Weinstein’s lawyers did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comments.
