Missing Kade Kurita Search
West Point officials still believe that the 20-year-old cadet, missing since Friday, is somewhere in the extensive military camps and training camps.
“There has been no cell phone or financial activity in more than 72 hours,” Colonel Cecil Marson, commander of the garrison, said in a recent press release. “This leads us to believe that it is still near West Point.”
Kurita was about to go to the training area to compete in military skills events in an attempt to be selected for the Sandhurst Military Skills Competition next spring, said Lt. Col. Christopher Ophardt, a spokesman for West Point.
The search effort, which consists of approximately 400 people, including 130 soldiers from the Fort Drum, New York military police, has covered more than 6,000 acres in West Point, he adds.
Now this is a great way to help locate the missing. Kade Kurita matters & so do all the other service members who go missing. We need a massive response like this, especially if search needs include military property. Civilians & family don’t have access. https://t.co/eLxTN4gpH5

Investigation Reports
The Army Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the missing cadet and weapon, according to the statement.
West Point officials stressed that they do not believe that the missing cadet is a threat to others, but it can be a danger to himself.
“He left his backpack, Kevlar’s helmet, and all his magazines,” said Ophardt, who did not give details on why school officials believe the cadet may want to hurt himself.
