Queensland police have arrested and charged several men over the twisted abduction and torture of an Ipswich couple after a nine-month investigation. Belgian woman Caroll Dufailly and Dutch man Eduardus Groenewegen, who run events company Benassi Event Solutions, were allegedly gagged, assaulted and abducted on October 25 last year.
Police became aware of the incident when Ms Dufailly, who had zip ties on her wrists and duct tape on her face, attended a rural house seeking help for her partner.
This afternoon, detectives from the State Crime Command’s Organised Crime Gangs Group (OCGG) arrested a 41-year-old Helensvale man at Coomera.
He has been charged with 16 charges relating to the incident, including armed robbery, assault, extortion and kidnapping.
The man was remanded in custody due to appear at Southport Magistrates Court on 25 July.
On Wednesday, OCGG detectives, assisted by NSW Police Force Criminal Groups Squad, extradited Mr Kuhner, to also face 16 charges relating to this incident including armed robbery, assault, extortion and kidnapping.
He appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court yesterday.
The couple runs the Benassi Event Solutions and Ms. Dufailly works as a topless model.
The detectives say that Groenewegen was using drugs and was severely beaten with broken legs, and Dufailly was tortured by attackers trying to access the safe at the facility, according to Nine News.
Ms. Dufailly stumbled to a nearby house and removed the alarm allegedly thrown into the bush by alleged attackers
Following a police investigation, Wednesday night officers accompanied Justin John Kuhner from Fairfield in New South Wales after he was extradited to Queensland, charged with 16 crimes.
Detectives claim that Lone Wolf committed the crimes by ordering an outlaw motorcycle gang – all three members of the club are behind bars following police raids.
After the attack, the couple was left to die in nearby Ripley Bushland, Ms. Dufailly left to help Groenewegen.
The injured woman taped her mouth canal and managed to come across a nearby residence with her zip ties and raised the alarm.
“It was a serious, vicious and deliberate attack, and as a result of this investigation, there should be a strong warning to the gang members that violence and crime behavior will not be tolerated,” said Detective Attorney Chief Denzil Clark.
