Schlarman entered as a coach at Bourbon County High School, coached the defense line in 1998 and 99, and helped guide the team through the state playoffs in both seasons. He returned to England as a graduate assistant between 2000-02, earning his master’s degree and assisting the offensive line for three seasons. When the Wildcats compiled a 7-5 record, he was also responsible for the tough times of the ’02 campaign.

Schlarman re-entered the high school ranks in 2003 as head coach for two seasons at Campbell County. He moved to Newport HS in 2005-06 and had a two-year 19-6 record, including two state playoffs and a district title. He was named the Regional Coach of the Year in 2005.

Schlarman had coached every match while undergoing treatment before he missed his Kentucky trip to Missouri in October. Despite enduring painful side effects, she rarely missed applications.

“I owe a debt of gratitude to that guy that I could never pay,” Landon Young said earlier this season. “It’s not just preparing me for football, preparing me for the next level of football, and preparing to lead my team as best I can throughout this season. It drives me to be a man. It shows us what the true definition of a man is and there is no excuse to see him through everything he has gone through.
