Jerry Harris’s arrest comes days after the FBI launched an investigation. Jerry Harris, one of the stars of the popular Netflix series “Cheer,” was arrested Thursday in Chicago on a federal child pornography charge.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois confirmed in a press release that Harris, 21, was arrested for allegedly tempting a minor to produce sexually explicit photos and videos of himself. He has been charged with one count of producing child pornography.
A criminal complaint filed in the United States District Court in Chicago alleges that Harris contacted a minor through a social media app and “repeatedly prompted him to produce sexually explicit videos and photos of himself and submit them Harris, “the press release reads.
The minor victim allegedly told the Netflix personality that she was 13 years old. Harris is scheduled to make an initial court appearance today at 2 p.m. CDT before United States Magistrate Judge M. David Weisman in Chicago.
The charge of producing child pornography carries a minimum penalty of 15 years in prison and a maximum of 30 years.

The charge comes just days after it was revealed that the FBI executed a search warrant at Harris’s home in Naperville, Illinois.
“The FBI is conducting court-authorized police activities in that area,” Siobhan Johnson, special public affairs agent, told Fox News in a statement Monday. However, the FBI did not elaborate and did not name Harris at the time.
A representative for Harris did not immediately respond to Fox News’ request for comment on Thursday, but on Monday a spokesperson for the Netflix star told TMZ: “We categorically discuss the allegations made against Jerry Harris, which allegedly occurred when he was a We are confident that when the investigation is completed the true facts will be revealed. ”
Harris rose to fame when he appeared on the Netflix original docuseries “Cheer,” which debuted on the streaming platform in January and follows the competitive cheerleading squad at Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas as they prepare for a national championship.
