An eight-year-old boy from Guatemala Felipe Alonzo-Gomez has died in US government custody, officials say, the second migrant child to die in US detention this month.
The border agency says the Felipe Alonzo-Gomez died on Monday night hours after showing signs of illness. A Texas congressman named him as Felipe Alónzo-Gomez.
The Felipe Alonzo-Gomez was detained with his father on 18 December after illegally crossing the US-Mexico border.
A seven-year-old girl died earlier this month just hours after being detained.
Jakelin Caal, also from Guatemala, developed a high fever and died of liver failure.

Felipe Alonzo-Gomez was apprehended with his father at a location about 3 miles west of the Paso Del Norte port of entry in El Paso, Texas for illegal entry.
That apprehension location is a less than a 15-minute drive from the Paso Del Norte port, but groups may be detained in the field until transportation is available.

The Guatemalan Consulate was contacted about the Felipe Alonzo-Gomez‘s death. Felipe Alonzo-Gomez’s father is currently detained at the Alamogordo Station pending transfer to ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations. He has spoken to his spouse in Guatemala and the Guatemalan Consulate.
