Esi Edugyan Wiki: She was born in 1978 in Calgary, Canada to Ghanaian immigrant parents. She is a Canadian novelist. Edugyan studied creative writing at the University of Victoria, where she was mentored by Jack Hodgins. She also earned a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins Writing Seminars.  Her debut novel, The Second Life of Samuel Tyne, was published in 2004 and was shortlisted for the Hurston-Wright Legacy Award in 2005.

Esi Edugyan revealed her 1st novel, The Second lifetime of Samuel Tyne, in 2004 and was shortlisted for the Hurston-Wright gift Award in 2005. Despite favorable reviews for her 1st novel, Edugyan had issue securing a publisher for her second fiction manuscript. She spent it slowly as a writer-in-residence in Stuttgart, Germany. this era galvanized her to drop her unsold manuscript and write another novel, Half-Blood Blues, regarding a mixed-race jazz musician in World War II-era Europe United Nations agency is kidnapped by the Nazis as a “Rhineland Bastard”.

Half-Blood Blues which was revealed in 2011, was proclaimed as a shortlisted political leader for that year’s Man agent Prize, Scotiabank Giller Prize, Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize and Governor General’s Award for English language fiction. Edugyan was one in every of 2 Canadian writers, alongside Patrick DeWitt, to create all four award lists in 2011.

Her third novel, Washington Black, was revealed in Sept 2018. It won the Giller Prize in Gregorian calendar month2018, creating Edugyan solely the third author, after M. G. Vassanji and Alice author, ever to win the award double. the quantity for the Giller prize is $100,000.
