The woman killed in a plane crash at Stave Lake on Monday has been identified as a pilot based out of Pitt Meadows.

Erissa Yong-Wilson, 66, who flew out of Pitt Meadows Airport, YPK, was killed and a 21-year-old woman was injured after their plane, a Cessna 140, went down just before 6 p.m. on an abandoned air strip near Stave Lake.

BC Aero Club chairman Tom Heise, where Yong-Wilson is an active member, said the club members were still in shock after learning about death.

“If you did not know Erissa, you were not at the airport for a long time,” said Coiseit resident Heise.

Yong-Wilson, Heise was a member of the BC Aero Club based on the YPK for at least ten years.

“It was always inside and outside the club,” he said.

Heise, Yong-Wilson ran a flying school at one point, added Cobalt Aviation.

He also participated in COPA for Kids Day, an event where pilots donated their time to make free flights to children, and many other events organized by the club.

He was very active on Airport Day and had been on the organizing committee for at least the past three years.

Yong-Wilson regularly. He attended meetings at the Aero Club and did not hesitate to give any idea about Heise.

“He really walked on his own drum,” he said.

Abbotsford Flying Club president George Aung Thin online online on Tuesday 28 July, where Yong-Wilson volunteered for activities, including the Abbotsford Flying Club Kids First Flight event, said Yong-Wilson “a great pilot and a great person everywhere. ”

Friend Laurie Smith was devastated when she learned about Yong-Wilson’s death.

“Erissa, an aviation buff, was a huge fan of Bug Smith,” said Smith.

“He was proud of the lineage they shared as Singapore’s natives, and he nicknamed him the Lalath nickname, the Malay word for ‘flying bugs’. I am very pleased to include him among my cat-loving friends. Rest in peace, Erissa, ”says Smith’s post.

The cause of the crash is being investigated by the Transport Security Board with the help of Mission RCMP.
