Donovan Bailey is a Brooklyn teenager who has been charged with attempted murder after opening fire in a suspected gang-related shooting during Labor Day weekend. According to the New York Post, 15-year-old Donovan Bailey is facing five counts of attempted murder due to being accused of shooting five people in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn during the early hours of September 7, 2020 during an unofficial J’Ouvert celebration. J’Ouvert is the annual celebration that happens before the West Indian Day Parade every Labor Day weekend in Brooklyn. The entire lineup of festivities was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Bailey has also been charged with weapon possession and felony assault, according to The New York Daily News.
The Post reported that Bailey was a member of the Crips gang and opened fire on rival gang members from the People’s Nation from a stolen vehicle at around 3 am. One of the injured included six-year-old Maxwell Cesc-Dinho. struck on the wrist. The little boy’s mother, Patricia Brathwaite, and the three men, Yves St. Flavin, Bob Charlotin and Kelly Barthold were also shot.
“A bunch of people were walking down the block and I was waiting for them to pass and someone started shooting,” Brathwaite told CBS.
Barthold told The Times that a bullet had been surgically removed from the top of his ankle at Brooklyn’s Kings County Hospital.
NYPD Chief of Detectives Rodney Harrison said, “What we have now is getting out of a taxi with his son, and then two people pulled out the firearms and started shooting, and they were both shot.”
Bailey was identified as the gunman in a tweet by New York Commissioner Dermot Shea. According to The New York Times, Bailey will be charged as an adult.

Bailey was arrested at the crime scene and Glock armed with a .40 pistol when caught. It is also thought of in the shooting that occurred early in Brooklyn that night. Bailey’s public attorney did not comment on Bailey’s arrest.
According to the Daily News, a 21-year-old man named Noel Kervins, named Queens, was also found with a loaded .380 caliber pistol and was arrested in connection with the fire after the culprit was accused of possessing a gun. Brooklyn Deputy District Attorney Wilfredo Cotto said that he saw Kervins walking with a gun at his hearing on September 8, 2020. His attorney Adam Cole claimed he was not involved in shooting. Kervins is held in $ 25,000 bonds.
Bailey has faced the law before. The New York Post reported that he had been arrested eight times. According to The New York Times, he has been suspected of two crimes since 2019. He is accused of being a passenger while shooting from a car that resulted in the death of a 33-year-old man. It’s unclear if the shooter was Bailey. He was also charged with robbery after he and three other teenagers were charged with taking $ 55 from his two younger brothers.
