Derek Ho, a former pro surfer and world champion, died on July 17 at the age of 55, KHON2 reported. The outlet reported that friends of the famous surfer said he died of a heart attack on Friday afternoon. Coastal Watch reported that the surfer took himself to the hospital, where he fell into a coma and later died.

Career

Ho is a legendary surfer who was known to be Hawaii’s first men’s professional world surf champion in 1993. He was born on September 26, 1964 in Hawaii Kailua and graduated from Kailua High School. The old professional started surfing at the age of three and won the best competitions in the late 1980s. He won the Triple Crown four times in 1984, 1986, 1988 and 1990. He was also a double winner of Pipe Masters, one of the most admired titles he won in 1986 and in the 1993 championship season.
Ho is a four-time Triple Crown champion whose name was engraved in the cup in 1984, 1986, 1988 and 1990. Graduated from Kailua High School, the two-time winner of prestigious Pipe Masters who received titles in 1986, and the 1993 world championship season.

On this morning there were no waves, so I didn’t get him surfing but I was honored to meet this legend and have a chance to snap a photo of him. He was a true inspiration to many.”
