The gunman who shot and killed two FBI agents while they were serving a federal search warrant in a child pornography investigation Tuesday has been identified as 55-year-old David Lee Huber, the FBI said in a news release.
Huber opened fire on the agents around 6 a.m. Tuesday when they went to his Sunrise home to serve a court-ordered search warrant for a violent crime against children investigation, the FBI said. Five agents were struck by gunfire in the shootout.
Two FBI agents were killed and three agents wounded as they executed a search warrant in Sunrise, Florida. About 6 a.m. a team approached the apartment of a suspect in violent crimes against children case. That suspect was alerted to the police presence by his ring doorbell. He then opened fire with an assault-type gun.
Executing search warrants is “an essential and important part of what we do and are thoroughly researched and meticulously planned to take into account any threats or dangers,” he said. “The vast majority of these warrants occur without incident.”

Huber, a 55-year-old who ran a computer consulting business, is accused of shooting five federal agents attempting to execute a federal court-ordered search warrant as part of a child pornography investigation.
Law enforcement sources told the Miami Herald that Huber set up a camera in his doorbell and was monitoring the agents as they approached his unit at the Water Terrace apartment complex around 6 a.m. on Tuesday. He then opened fire with an assault-style weapon through the closed door, before killing himself.

Alfin, 36, was born in New York and first joined the FBI’s Albany office in 2009. He was reassigned to FBI Miami in 2017 and worked crimes against children violations for more than six years. He is survived by his wife and child.
Schwartzenberger, 43, was born in Pueblo, Colorado and first joined the FBI’s Albuquerque office in 2005. She was reassigned to FBI Miami in 2010 and worked crimes against children cases for more than seven years. She is survived by her husband and two children.
Child-Porn Suspect Who Ambushed FBI Agents Identified
Huber was first identified by the Miami Herald and the Sun-Sentinel, which cited law enforcement sources. The FBI declined The Daily Beast’s request for comment. A Sunrise police spokesperson confirmed to The Daily Beast the gunman died by suicide after shooting the five FBI agents.

According to public records, Huber spent most of his life in South Florida. The computer consultant, who had a pilot’s license, was married in late 2000 and divorced a decade later. He registered two computer consulting businesses, including Huber Computer Consulting and COMPUTER TROUBLESHOOTERS 0512 INC, though both are now inactive.

As first reported by the Miami Herald, Huber’s previous run-ins with the law are confined to minor offenses. Court records show Huber received two traffic tickets in 2016. The tickets say Huber moved to his unit in the Water Terrace apartment complex—where the shooting took place—that same year.
