Damien Hubbard, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene while his 55-year-old partner was left seriously injured.
A year on and she continues to receive treatment for life-changing injuries and will require further operations for some time to come.
Police arrested Bracher at the scene and he later pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
Bracher, of Bilston, West Midlands, was jailed for six years and nine months at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Thursday.
He will be banned from driving for more than seven years on his release and will be required to sit an extended retest before being allowed behind the wheel again.
Sergeant Dean Caswell, of West Midlands Police, said afterwards: ‘Driving on the wrong side of the road is inexcusable under these circumstances and the cost in this case was high.
‘It took just seconds to make a bad decision and a life was lost.
‘Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the man who died and also his partner who, not only has to deal with her own grief, but faces considerable treatment for her injuries.’
