Conor Climo is a Las Vegas man who once claimed he was protecting his neighborhood while patrolling on foot with an assault rifle has been arrested and charged with plotting to carry out an attack on a synagogue and LGBTQ bar in the city.

Climo told the FBI he had also been looking at creating an eight-man “sniper platoon” to conduct a shooting attack against Jews, court documents said, a plan he said he had been considering for two years. The 23-year-old also claimed he was trying to recruit a homeless person to conduct surveillance on a possible target, according to the complaint.

“Threats of violence motivated by hate and intended to intimidate or coerce our faith-based and LGBTQ communities have no place in this country,” US Attorney Nicholas A Trutanich said in a statement.

Conor Climo, 23, was charged on Friday with possession of unregistered bomb-making materials that he clandestinely discussed using to attack a synagogue.

Furthermore, Climo faces multiple federal charges including one count of possession of an unregistered firearm. If convicted, he faces a 10-year sentence in federal prison and $250,000 fine.

Investigation Reports

FBI agents started tracking Climo when he was seen on local TV carrying an assualt rifle and wearing body armor – and discussed plans for a one-man neighborhood watch.

After a search of his Las Vegas, agents seized fireworks, fuses, wiring and other components for constructing timed explosive devices on August 8, according to court documents filed in the case.

Authorities also said they seized a notebook which had hand-drawn schematics for a potential Las Vegas-area attack, as well as drawings of timed explosive devises.

His arrest comes days after a 22 people were killed in a shooting rampage at a Walmart store in El Paso, Texas, that authorities said they are investigating as a hate crime and active of domestic terrorism.
The FBI issued a statement voicing concern that the El Paso killings, and a separate deadly mass shooting 13 hours later in Dayton, Ohio, might inspire additional hate violence.
