Christopher Eaddy is a fake kidnapper of Sabrina Belcher who is a candidate for mayor in Sumter now faces criminal charges after police say she staged her own kidnapping and beating to get “publicity, sympathy and votes in the November election.”
Sabrina Belcher, 29, carried out the stunt on Facebook live, police say, with help from 34-year-old Christopher Eaddy.

According to the Sumter Police Department, Sabrina Belcher was accused of reporting a kidnapping and beating herself for staging herself in order to gain sympathy, publicity and votes.
Belcher admitted to the police that he was planning the fraud, the officers said in a statement. It was also recorded and broadcast on Facebook Live. His 34-year-old partner, Christopher James Eaddy, was also charged.
At around 11:30 am on August 18, 2020, the police reported to the police that he was attacked and kidnapped by someone he did not know during the robbery attempt. He was injured and the vehicle windows were broken. He was hospitalized for treatment and later released. Police said Belcher later gave the attacker a false name. According to the police, they later determined that he was in contact with Eaddy and the two planned the trick for a few days.
“It was an effort in our society to create disorder and discontent for personal gain,” said Chief Russell Roark. “As a result, valuable resources were wasted based on misinformation, including staff, police department working hours, and local medical professionals.”
Police said the two had also tried to discredit a mayoral candidate on record, and plans to smear other candidates who went to the election are under way. The police did not reveal details of how Belcher tried to discredit another candidate or what his future plans were.
He was charged with reporting to a fake police about a crime and conspiracy. Eaddy was accused of conspiracy. Police said they were both booked at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center on Wednesday.

Sabrina Belcher had a goal of becoming the first Black female mayor of Sumter, South Carolina. According to her Facebook campaign page, Belcher4Mayor2020, she was the first Black female to ever run for the post. According to Census.Gov, Sumter has a population that is 47.9 percent Black.
A GoFundMe was started to raise money for Belcher’s political campaign. It had only $25 from one anonymous donor.
“1st black female candidate for mayor of Sumter South Carolina just needs a little financial support,” the page said.
The fundraiser had a goal of $10,000.
Around 23:30. Belcher reported to the police on Tuesday that he was attacked and abducted by a man he did not know and tried to rob him.
He said he was injured and the man broke his car windows during the attack. The crew took Belcher to the hospital for treatment and was released.
Later, investigators discovered that he was in contact with Eaddy, who was allegedly attacker, and he had planned this days in advance.
The police said he admitted that he made up the crime.
Police also accused Belcher of trying to defame a political opponent during the fake Facebook Live attack and of plotting to smear other candidates before the election.

Belcher is accused of conspiracy and filing a false crime report from the police. Eaddy is accused of conspiracy.
They were both arrested Wednesday and taken to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.
Belcher is being held on a $ 10,000 bond, according to prison officials. Eaddy bought the $ 5,000 bond and has been released ever since.
