Christine Chiles was last seen early Friday morning walking out of her home, Grosse Ile police said Monday. After Chiles was last seen leaving her home on Friday at 4 a.m. in a sweater and sweatpants, she was reported missing to police.

Locals helped conduct search parties on the island community on Friday and Saturday. Participants went door to door asking for any surveillance footage and also inspected areas like docks, garages and boats. By 6:30 p.m., the groups had covered most of the island, with a few exceptions, including to the Municipal Airport.

Christine Chiles Found Dead

Police announced that the body of Christine Chiles was found in the Detroit River, close to her home on East River Road, at around 11:30 a.m. Monday.

According to police, Christine Chiles’ body was found in the river near her home. She had been missing since around 4 a.m. Friday. It was believed that she may have been suffering from depression.

“The body has been released to the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office and an autopsy has been scheduled for Sept. 24, 2019,” said Lt. Kenneth Pelland of the Grosse Ile Police Department. “The cause of death has not been determined as of yet and the investigation is ongoing.”

The cause of death hasn’t been determined, said Grosse Ile police. An autopsy will be done Tuesday by the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Police Investigation Reports

Pelland said detectives will be present to view the autopsy. He said investigators hope to have more information after the autopsy has been concluded.

In information released on Saturday, police revealed that Chiles may have been suffering from depression.

However, Pelland said it would be premature to speculate whether or not her death was related to depression.
