Chris Yarran charged: Former AFL player Chris Yarran has reportedly been charged with assault and obstruction over a car stealing spree in Perth on Friday night.
PerthNow has revealed Yarran allegedly crashed an already stolen car before attempting to steal another vehicle as concerned onlookers offered their assistance.
Police claim the first theft occurred around 7.30pm when a man in his 60s gave a lift to Yarran, who was known to him, before the former Carlton half-back threatened him and forced him out of the vehicle.
Yarran then crashed the car at a busy intersection before fleeing the scene on foot where he attempted to steal vehicles of people who were offering their help.
The 27-year-old has been taken to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment and was granted bail with a $1000 personal undertaking to reappear on November 20.
Yarran played 127 games for Carlton after being selected with pick number six in the 2008 Draft.
He was traded to Richmond in 2015 for a first-round pick but never played a game in black and gold after dealing with a number of mental health issues.
