Back in 2017, the former host of Today Show at NBC News was fired after she claims of two sexual assault and another of sexual harassment were made against him.
She claims she went to Lauer’s hotel room twice – once to retrieve her press pass, and once after the star asked her back.
Nevils reportedly alleges that Lauer, who was wearing a t-shirt and boxers, pushed her against the door to kiss her before pushing her onto the bed, ‘flipping her over, asking if she liked anal sex’.
While one allegation involved a woman who alleges she was assaulted in Lauer’s office in 2001, the other allegation remained unknown to the public. However, in Farrow’s new book, which has been obtained by Variety, former NBC employee Nevils alleges that she was anally raped by the now 61-year-old in 2014. In 2018, Lauer denied allegations of assault, saying: ‘I fully acknowledge that I acted inappropriately as a husband, father and principal at NBC. ‘However, I want to make it perfectly clear that any allegations or reports of coercive, aggressive or abusive actions on my part, at any time, are absolutely false.’
Matt Lauer Denies the Allegations
Matt Lauer has angrily denied an NBC producer’s allegation that he anally raped her, saying that the pair had consensual anal sex and that it led to an affair.
Lauer was accused of anal rape by Brooke Nevils, a 35-year-old NBC producer who was in Russia for the Sochi Winter Olympics with him and Meredith Vieira in 2014.
In 2017, she reported Lauer for allegedly sexually assaulting her one night during the Olympics and it was her allegation that led to him being fired.
It was reported at the time but now, Nevils has agreed to be named and is speaking on the record to share more details of the alleged rape in Ronan Farrow’s new book, Catch and Kill.
Brooke Nevils allegedly continued her relationship with Lauer
Nevils allegedly continued her relationship with Lauer after the incident at the 2014 Sochi Olympics. “Sources close to Lauer emphasized that she sometimes initiated contact,” Farrow writes, according to Variety. “What is not in dispute is that Nevils, like several of the women I’d spoken to, had further sexual encounters with the man she said assaulted her.”
“This is what I blame myself most for,” Nevils tells Farrow in an interview “It was completely transactional. It was not a relationship.”
Citing reason for her continued relationship with Lauer, she says it was because she was intimidated by the power he held over her career. She also claims she told “like a million people” about her encounter with Lauer including her colleagues and superiors at NBC.
Nothing was done about the incident until 2017 when the “#metoo movement” led her “Today” show colleagues to ask about Lauer and urge her to report the incident to NBC.
Brooke Nevils Work-Life at NBC Became a Nightmare after her Sexual Assault Claim
Nevils went to NBC Universal human resources with a lawyer after colleagues urged her to report the 2014 incident. Her report caused NBC Universal to fire Lauer. In Farrow’s book, Nevils alleges that President of NBC News Noah Oppenheim and Chairman of NBC News and MSNBC Andrew Lack “were emphasizing that the incident hadn’t been ‘criminal’ or an ‘assault’”. She claims that when she heard this she “threw up”.
NBC Universal promised her anonymity but the company said internally that the incident happened at the Sochi Olympics. This detail limited the number of possible complainants and her colleagues eventually figured out it was her.
“Nevils’s work-life became torture,” Farrow writes. “She was made to sit in the same meetings like everyone else, discussing the news, and in all of them colleagues loyal to Lauer cast doubt on the claims, and judgment on her.”
Nevils claims she never wanted money but NBC still paid her “seven figures” after she went on medical leave in 2018.
“The network proposed a script she would have to read, suggesting that she had left to pursue other endeavors, that she was treated well, and that NBC News was a positive example of sexual harassment,” According to Farrow.
