A man who allegedly drove his truck to a crowd of peaceful demonstrators in Pasadena on 31 May was arrested Wednesday after a federal criminal complaint accused him of conspiring to violate firearm laws.

Benjamin Jong Ren Hung, 28, from San Marino, is accused of transporting firearms across state borders and making a false statement about acquiring firearms.
When he first appeared in Los Angeles federal court on Wednesday, Hung was arrested pending trial Monday to determine his bail status.

According to a statement filed with the complaint, Pasadena Police Department officers arrested Hung on May 31, after allegedly attempting a truck attack in Old Town Pasadena.

According to the affidavit, during a search on Hung’s truck, police found a loaded semi-automatic pistol, several high-capacity magazines loaded with ammunition, an 18-inch machete, $ 3,200 in cash, a long metal pipe and a megaphone.

If convicted, Hung faces up to five years in federal prison terms.
