Beckett Cypher parents were Julie Cypher and Melissa Etheridge. The couple decided had to 2 children via artificial insemination during their partnership. Their daughter, Bailey Jean, was born in February 1997, and Beckett in November 1998. For a while, the couple was reluctant to discuss who fathered the kids but they eventually revealed rock singer David Crosby is the biological father of both children.
Before welcoming Bailey and Beckett, Etheridge spoke to The Advocate in 1999 about wanting children. “I think that the more gay parents raise good, strong, compassionate people, the better the world will be,” she said.
“I do not believe that my children will be wanting in any way because they didn’t have a father in the home every single day,” Etheridge said in an interview on “60 Minutes” in 2000. “What they have in the home is two loving parents. I think that puts them ahead of the game.”
Cypher was previously married to Lou Diamond Phillips. Julie and Etheridge ultimately split in September 2000.
Etheridge started dating actress Tammy Lynn Michaels. In 2006, Michaels gave birth to twins Johnnie Rose and Steven Miller via an anonymous sperm donor.

Beckett Cypher died as per Etheridge’s statement on Wednesday, May 13th. The Oscar and Grammy-winning rock star announced Wednesday her son with filmmaker Julie Cypher died. The singer mourned her son in a social media post on Wednesday.
“Today I joined the hundreds of thousands of families who have lost loved ones to opioid addiction,” Etheridge wrote on Twitter. “My son Beckett, who was just 21, struggled to overcome his addiction and finally succumbed to it today. He will be missed by those who loved him, his family and friends.”
She added: “My heart is broken.”
Etheridge and Cypher, who have been separated for many years, also share a daughter, Bailey. Both children were conceived using artificial insemination and a sperm donation from musician David Crosby.
