Austin Denton was a boy from New Mexico, who was diagnosed with a rare spinal cord tumor, has died at the age of 18. Denton had been in remission for 10 years at the time of his death. According to his Twitter Bio, He planned to be a student journalist at Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. He also served as the school’s sports team’s social media director.

Diagnosed with a rare spinal cord tumor at 2 years old, Austin was in remission for ten years following rounds of chemotherapy and surgery. According to a news release from the New Mexico Activities Association, Austin died on Tuesday following complications resulting from a tumor.

Austin was known in the Albuquerque community as a high school sports enthusiast, as well as a broadcaster for ESPN Radio 101.7 The Team. He started broadcasting early on, conducting interviews with football coaches and became an announcer for basketball and baseball games at La Cueva.

Although he was bound to a wheelchair, he lived a full life and inspired others to “Seize the Moment.”

Austin was the voice of the sports program La Cueva Bears, played play by play for the local sports radio and interviewed countless professional athletes. Austin even called a draft pick for his favorite team: the Denver Broncos.
But even more impressive, he didn’t let his health problems get in the way of his dreams.
