Anthony Shane Simmons was a suspect in a Mississippi double homicide died of an apparent suicide as police were approaching him.

According to WLOX, police found 39-year-old Anthony Shane Simmons at the home of a relative in Lamar County on Sunday morning.

 

Simmons is wanted for the blatant murders of 41-year-old James Kevin Lowe and 37-year-old Amanda West Rutherford, who were found dead in Purvis on Saturday night of gunshot wounds.

 

According to the report, the police were called home on Sunday morning and found Simmons sitting at the foot of a tree with a gun in hand. The suspect reportedly shot himself shortly after seeing the lawmakers on the property.

 

Authorities have yet to comment on the circumstances of the double murder on Saturday, but it is believed that Simmons knew the victims.

 

Earlier on Sunday, the Harrison County Sheriff’s office reportedly posted a warning that investigators were looking for Simmons as a murder suspect and warned that he was armed and dangerous.

 

Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel said first-degree murder warrants have been issued for Anthony Shane Simmons in connection with an incident at 1600 Purvis to Baxterville Road.

Deputies found the bodies of a 41-year-old man and 37-year-old woman at the scene. Both victims appeared to have been shot.

Rigel said it was believed that the suspect and victims knew each other.

Simmons is described as a white male, 6 foot, 160 pounds. He was last seen driving a white 2014 F-150 Ford pickup truck.

Simmons is considered armed and dangerous, Rigel said.
