Anika Chebrolu is an American teenage girl living in Texas who is known nationwide for her work on a potential COVID-19 treatment and is already receiving money for it. He is hailed as America’s best young scientist. Chebrolu earned $ 25,000 for the 3M Young Scientist Challenge and potential coronavirus breakthrough.

 

He describes himself as a typical teenager who plans to pursue a career as a medical researcher when he leaves school.

Anika Chebrolu Develops Potential COVID-19 Treatment

Anika won the 3M Young Scientist Competition for identifying a potential drug to treat COVID-19. He says that when he was in the 8th grade, he developed a molecule that binds to a protein in the SARS-CoV-2 virus and essentially stops the virus from working.

Anika says she started with a database of more than 682 million compounds and used several computer programs to understand how and where the molecule would attach to the virus.

 

“I developed this molecule that can bind to a specific protein in the SARS COVID-2 virus,” Chebrolu said. “I started with a database of over 682 million compounds that will stop the protein’s function by binding to this protein.”

 

Anika said she was inspired by stories about people suffering from COVID-19 and thanked her grandfather, who is also a professor of chemistry, for leading her to science.

 

My grandfather always pushed me towards science when I was little. “He was actually a chemistry professor and he always told me to learn the periodic table of the elements.”
