Alexander Nieves is a Paterson man who was arrested late Friday evening after reports of a shooting that left a 25-year-old resident wounded last month.
The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office arrested Alexander Nieves, 23, in connection with a shooting that took place in the early hours of July 18 in Paterson’s East Side. Nieves faces four charges, including attempted murder.
Paterson Police were dispatched to the area near East 24th Street and 14th Street at around 3:30 am after the shooting. When the officers arrived, they found a potential crime scene, but did not find a victim. Shortly after, the police were transferred to 21st Avenue and Madison Avenue in Paterson, following the report of a 25-year-old man shot and killed. According to a statement from the Passaic District Attorney’s Office, the unidentified man received two non-fatal gunshot wounds and was sent to St. It was stated that he was taken to the Joseph University Medical Center.
Nieves was arrested in the East 22nd Street area of Paterson, and attempted murder, 1st degree crime, illegal possession of pistol, 2nd degree crime, possession of weapons for illegal purpose, 2nd degree Crime and some persons not possessing weapons were 2nd degree offenses.
The suspect will be held in state prison for up to 20 years on charges of attempted murder. The State plans to file a petition for a detention trial to be heard by a Supreme Court Judge.
