He walked into the bushes looking for semi-precious stones, as reported by the outlet. That’s when the bear popped just feet away from him.
The adults who had accompanied him to the picnic told him not to panic.
“Keep coming Ale, don’t turn your back on him, he’s just minding his own business,” his mom’s boyfriend told him.
Alessandro made it to safety, but not before one last flourish of bravado from the bear, who reared up on its hind legs after the boy turned away.
The chilling encounter was caught on cellphone video.
Franzoi said he had been reading about bears during the coronavirus lockdown and he considered himself prepared. “It was the best day of my life, I really hoped something like that would happen. When I saw the bear pop up from the bushes I was really excited. I knew I must not surprise the bear and that I just had to move away from it,” ” he told La Stampa newspaper.
“It was important to leave quickly but without making the bear feel it was in danger. I did not look it in the eye and the bear understood I was not its enemy,” he added.
Also, his uncle, Federico, told the outlet, “The woods and wildlife are his passion,” “He reads a lot of books, he studies and dreams of having adventures.”
